Ways To
See God — Benny B. Bristow
“The heavens declare the glory of
God; and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Ps.19:1)
David is declaring that one can see God by just looking up!
There are those who read the Bible that so beautifully and vividly describe the
greatness and reality of God, and say, “I don’t believe the Bible. I don’t
believe there is a God.” They continue, “To accept the account of God in the
Bible requires faith instead of reality.”
However,
they forget that a description of God is NOT limited to the Bible! In fact, God
can be seen everywhere if we will only look UP, DOWN, and AROUND! The design
and intelligence of the heavens and the earth verify the description in the
Bible. The heavens filled with stars along with the powerful light beams of the
sun, declare God. The soft glowing of the moon at night shows a beautiful
reflection of the sun. The earth with a loud and booming voice heralds the
message of life. The appearances of the seasons, winter, spring, autumn, and
winter display the power and intelligence of God. Yes, God is everywhere!
God can be seen in the existence and functions of our bodies, our intellect, and ability to recognize our Creator. Just as David could see God’s presence and glory in the heavens and could see His handiwork in the firmament, he could also see Him as his maker.
I
will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your
works, And that my soul knows very well” (Ps.139:14).
Isn’t
it wonderful that Christians can see God by faith through studying the word,
and also by seeing His marvelous creation? Life comes from life, and as the
song expresses, “There is a God; He is alive!”
When did life with God begin? It
NEVER began because He is eternal.
“The
eternal God
is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms;” (Deut. 33:27).
There
are those today who make every effort they can imagine to explain God away. But
to do so, they must become blind to millions of proofs and evidences of Him
everywhere. These infidels and atheists could see God if they would only open
their eyes.
Recently
as I was driving to work, the frost had covered the grasses along the side of
the road and the early morning sun had turned the frost into thousands of
diamond drops. The thought occurred to me that everywhere I looked I could see
God. As I waited at the red traffic lights, I wrote the following poem:
I see Him in the
sunshine, I see Him in the rain
I see Him in the dewdrops, I see Him
in everything.
I see Him in the heavens; I see Him
in the stars
I see Him in the present; I see Him
from afar.
I see Him in the winter as cold
winds blow past
I see Him in the early frost that
sparkles on the grass.
I see Him in the springtime; when
life is in full bloom
I see Him when the birds sing their
melodious tunes.
I see Him in the families that we
love so much
I see Him in the baby’s little
tender touch.
I see Him when in worship, and when
at work or play
I see Him now and forever throughout
external’s day!
