The Cleansing of the Temple

Matt. 21:12 And Jesus went into the 1temple of God, and cast out all those who sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of those who sold doves,

Matt. 21:13 And said to them, "It is 1written, 'My house will be called a 2house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "

1Isaiah 56:7 "Even them will I bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar. For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all people."

2Jeremiah 7:11 "Is this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it," says the LORD.

Matt. 21:14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.

Matt. 21:15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were moved with indignation.

Matt. 21:16 and 1said to Him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes. Have you never read, 'Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings you have perfected praise?' "

1Mark 11:18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the multitude was astonished at His doctrine.

Matt. 21:17 And He left them, and went out of the city to Bethany, and He lodged there.

Jesus Caused a Fig Tree to Wither

Matt. 21:18 Now in the morning as He returned to the city, He was 1hungry.

1Mark 11:12 And on the morrow, when they had come from Bethany, He was hungry.

Matt. 21:19 And when He saw a 1fig tree in the way, He came to it, and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, "Let no fruit grow on you ever again," And immediately the fig tree 2withered away.

1Mark 11:13,14 And seeing afar off a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He could find anything on it. And when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the time for figs. And Jesus answered and said to it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And His disciples heard it.

2Mark 11:20 And as they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

Lessons From Withered Fig Tree

Matt. 21:20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, "How did the fig tree 1wither away so soon?"

1Mark 11:21 And Peter remembered and said to Him, "Master, behold, the fig tree which You cursed has withered."

1John 1:29-34 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, after me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me. And I knew Him not; but that He should be made manifest to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water." Parable: Wicked Vinedressers

Matt. 21:33 Hear another 1parable: There was a certain householder, who planted a vineyard, and placed a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to vinedressers, and went into a far country.

1Mark 12:1 And He began to speak to them in parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a place for the wine vat, and built a tower. And he let it out to vinedressers, and went into a far country.

1Luke 20:9 Then began He to speak to the people this parable; "A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it out to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time."

Matt. 21:34 And when the time for the fruit drew near, he 1sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive of its fruit.

1Mark 12:2 And at the season he sent to the vinedressers a servant, that he might receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedresser.

1Luke 20:16  "He will come and destroy these vinedressers, and will give the vineyard to others." And when they heard it, they said, "God forbid."

Matt. 21:42 Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the 1Scriptures, 'The 2stone which the builders rejected, has become the head of the corner. This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?'

1Psalms 118:22,23 The stone which the builders refused has become the head cornerstone. This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

1Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever believes will not act hastily."

2Acts 4:10,11 Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him does this man stand here before you whole. This is the "stone which was rejected by you the builders, which has become the head of the corner."

Pharisees: What About Tribute to Caesar?

1Mark 12:13 And they send to Him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch Him in His words.

Matt. 22:16 And they 1sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth, neither care You for any man, for You regard not the person of men.

1Luke 20:20 And they watched Him, and sent forth spies, who pretended to be righteous men, that they might take hold of His words, so that they might deliver Him to the power and authority of the governor.

Matt. 22:17 Tell us therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?"

Matt. 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you tempt Me, you hypocrites?

1Romans 13:1-7 Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power except from God, and the powers that exist are ordained of God. Therefore whoever resists the power, resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Do you want then to be unafraid of the authorities? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is the minister of God to you for good. Sadducees and the Resurrection

Matt. 22:23 The same day the 1Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,

1Luke 20:27 Then came to Him certain of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection; and they asked Him,

1Acts 23:8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.

Matt. 22:24 saying, "Master, 1Moses said that, if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed for his brother.

1Mark 12:19 Master, Moses wrote to us, if a man's brother dies, and leaves his wife behind, and leaves no children, his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.

1Deuteronomy 25:5 If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no child, the wife of the dead man shall not marry outside to a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in to her, take her to be his wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her.

But those who are counted worthy to attain that other world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage; nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels; and are children of God, being children of the resurrection."

2Exodus 3:6 Moreover He said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

2Exodus 3:15 Moreover God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name for ever, and this is My memorial to all generations.'"

Matt. 22:32 "I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the 1living.

1Luke 20:38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to Him.

Matt. 22:33 And when the multitude 1heard this, they were astonished at His doctrine.

1Luke 20:39 Then certain of the scribes answering said, "Master, You have spoken well."

Scribes and the First Commandment?

Matt. 22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that He had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

Matt. 22:35 Then 1one of them, who was a lawyer, asked Him a question, tempting Him, and saying,

And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; this do, and you shall live."

Matt. 22:36 "Master, 1which is the great commandment in the law?

1Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?"
