Someday

D

uring our past years, we have known many people who have met their appointment with death (Hebrews 9:27). Some have been our precious loved ones, friends, and spiritual brothers and sisters in Christ. In fact, almost every day of our lives we either read or hear about someone dying. However, as a general rule, we think about someone else dying rather than ourselves!

But refusing to think about death and always applying the reality of it to others does not change the fact that our time will come to leave this earth. This fact is the reason why Jesus often used such words as “Now,” “Watch,” “be Prepared,” and “be Ready!”

Yet, thousands who have either read or heard such Scriptures taught, never get around to preparing for death and eternity. They may make excuses, promise to prepare later, and even show their emotions when the subject is discussed, but their plans always involve tomorrow.

For example, when Paul reasoned with Felix “about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, ‘Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you’” (Acts 24:25). But we never read in the Bible or in man’s history, where a convenient season came for him!

How serious do we take OUR appointment with death? Where are the priorities in our lives?  Are physical things that are so temporary in nature, ruling our lives, or is the kingdom of God and His righteousness receiving first place? (Matthew 6:33).

While thinking about the seriousness of our appointment with death, I wrote the following thoughts:

Someday

Someday, we will come to the end of life’s way

Someday, we will breath our last to end earth’s stay

Someday, our friends and loved ones will say,

We have departed for an eternal day.

Someday, we will give account for our earthly stay

Someday, we will face the Judge of endless days

So let us live in such a way

As though, Someday may be today!  —BBBristow
